Unite to Light + Giving Tuesday

November 26, 2018 2 min read

This Giving Tuesday, we are proud to share 10% of our e-commerce proceeds with Unite to Light, a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to manufacture and distribute efficient, durable, low cost solar lamps to people without access to electricity. Their main focus is to bring light to children, women, health clinics, midwives and victims of natural disasters.

Over 1 billion people, that's one out of every seven humans, lives without access to electricity. Many of us take the luxury of electricity for granted and for those in the world without it, this little light gives a lot of opportunity.

Based on their research in South Africa, graduation rates go up 20-30% when students are given a solar light. Education is vital experience for all children and young adults and in the evening hours studying comes to an end when there is no light. Unite to Light is making a difference one light at a time.

In Bangladesh and Somaliland, a midwife will deliver 150-200 women per year on average; a solar light ensures the safety and privacy of the mothers and children.

The environment is also a key focus in the Unite to Light mission. When a kerosene lamp is replaced with a solar lamp, there is a decrease in dangerous air pollution  and greenhouse gas emissions are eliminated from production.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Unite to Light and their incredible effort to bring light and opportunity to those without electricity. Visit http://www.unitetolight.org to learn more or purchase a solar light or solar charged battery bank. With every light or battery purchased, one is donated.
